Pull Rope Emergency Stop Switches
CONFORMITY
In compliance with EN 620, KIEPE pull-rope emergency stop switches are used in stationary belt conveyors for emergency shutdowns.
Kiepe pull-rope emergency stop switches comply with the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, with the harmonized standards DIN EN ISO 13850:2008 and DIN EN 60204-1:2006 as well as with DIN EN ISO 12100-1: 2003 and DIN EN ISO 12100-2: 2003. The requirements of DIN EN ISO 13849 Teil 1 und 2 : 2008 were taken into consideration to the extent applicable. The safety objectives of the Low Voltage Directive 2006/95/EC according to Annex I No.1.5.1 of the Maschinery Directive ate complied with.
SAFETY OBJECTIVES
In respect of the safety objectives of the Low Voltage Directive, Kiepe pull-rope emergency stop switches meet the requirements according to IEC 60947-5-1 Annex K; IEC 60947-5-5 as well as DIN EN 60204-1. In compliance with EN 60947-5-5:2005 the service life of the Kiepe pull-rope emergency stop switches types HEN, NTS, SEG. PRS, PAS and LRS as well as the service life of the related design in compliance with ATEX directive has been proven to be 6050 switching cycles without failure.
SAFETY DATA
Kiepe pull-rope emergency stop switches are emergency stop deveices with snap-in function and manual reset. The contacts are positive-break contacts and endure a mechanical life cycle of two (2) million operations. Due to being equipped with at least 1 NO/NC contact that are switched sumulaneously, a cross check according to DIN EN ISO 13849-1 6.2.6. category 3 is possible.
According to DIN EN ISO 13849-2 Annex D4 Kiepe pull-rope emergency stopo switchesrank among the proven and tested components with psotive -break contacts and may be used in safety circuits up to PL e.

PERFORMANCE LEVEL (PL) AND SAFETY INTEGRITY LEVEL (SIL):
The achievable PL and SIL values depend essentially on the switching concept as well as frequency and duration of occurance of a hazardous situation since this information defines the interval at which the safety function is requested. The frequency and duration of the occurance of a hazardous situation result from the hazard and risk analysis of the machine or system being examined and are not the discretion of the manufacturer/supplier of the pull-rope emergency stop switch.
For information on the developement and implementation of emergency stop switching concepts in compliance with PL requirements we recommend the documentation of the institution for statutory accident insurance and prevention: "BGIA Report 2/2008 - Funktionale Sicherheit von Maschinensteuerungen - Anwendung der DIN EN ISO 13849 (Functional safety of machine controls - Application of DIN EN ISO 13849 in German Language)".
Please observe that according to DIN EN ISO 13849-1 the probability of a dangerous failure is increased for series connection of pull-rope emergency stop switches. This amy reduce the PL range of application. The overall safety circuit concept, into which the pull-rope emergency stop switches are integrated, shall be validated in comliance with DIN EN ISO 13849-2.
For the proper use of pull-rope emergency stopo switches in PL/SIL structures, absolutely ensure that the pull-rope emergency stop switchs and the accessories are assembled according to the operating instructions, serviced periodically, the function checked at periodical intervals and that the life cycles of the devices is not exceeded.
